In this video, I will focus on the eye brush. There are so many options with eye brushes, so we’re starting with the best beginner options that will allow you to grow your collection over time.
In today’s tutorial, I’m keeping it nice and simple by using three colors from Sephora’s Huda Beauty Nude Eyeshadow Palette as well as the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (I use Eden).
I want you to keep in mind that there are no rules when it comes to brushes. These are just my guidelines to get started and build consistency into your routine. Do what works best for you!

In this tutorial, I do make-up less! There is a lot of fallout on the eyeshadow from application, which is why I prefer to do the eyes first!
As the name suggests, this is a great brush for packing color. Don’t be afraid to load it up! It is for full coverage. You will be blending out this foundation, so a little extra saturation is okay! For this step, I’m using my most neutral color and taking it up to the crease. As you can see, the flat surface of the brush works great for tapping the color and covering more surface area. It’s a great option for lids and browbones.
A fluffy brush is a must for every collection! If you don’t have any other brushes in your arsenal- this is the perfect beginner brush. Although it’s usually used to apply shadow to the crease, it’s also great for concealing and blending.
When applying color with a fluffy brush, you want to remove excess color before application. Then use a windshield wiper style motion in the crease area. Because it is fluffy, it helps to blend for you.

This brush is also great for creating a smoky eye as it is fantastic for applying color to the corners. There is a perception that a smoky eye is just a dark shadow. But it’s actually any color combination that creates depth in the corner of the eye or the lashline.
An angled brush is great for applying eyeliner and brow color. An angled brush will help you define the lashline and can be used for gel eyeliner or any other color shadow. The key to a great application with this brush is to gently sweep the lids apart and get really close to the lash line.
When thinking about pencil brushes, think about specific color application. This brush is great under the eye and for enhancing the intensity of your complexion. This brush really gives you more control over where the color is going and how bold we want it to be. With this brush, you can place the color where you want it, pack it in then use the fluffy brush (#2 above) to buff it.
