The mayor of New Orleans has a message for Russell Wilson.

In wake of reports that the longtime Seahawks quarterback may want out of Seattle, LaToya Cantrell took to Twitter to make her pitch as the mayor of a city that could be in the market for a new quarterback.

“I want to make sure that you understand that the city of New Orleans is a place for you and your beautiful family,” Cantrell said in a video posted to Twitter Saturday, adding that she’s been “hearing the rumors on the streets.”

“I know, Mr. Wilson, that you will be a great addition to the New Orleans Saints. And more importantly, I can see us in that number winning that Super Bowl championship once again. What else I can see? The misses, Ciara Wilson herself, on that main stage during the historical Essence Festival.

“Just wanted to stop in to let you know that we not only admire you, we want you… the culture of the city of New Orleans awaits you.”

Considering the Saints have seemingly been waiting for quarterback Drew Brees to retire for the past two seasons, New Orleans could be a destination for Wilson, who has reportedly broached the idea of a trade to Seahawks brass. However, Wilson’s agent Mark Rodgers told ESPN that his client has not requested a trade.

The 42-year-old Brees is also not feeding into the speculation that he’s ready to retire after 15 seasons with the Saints and 20 in the NFL. His trainer, Todd Durkin, published a video to social media Saturday that showed Brees pushing a weighted sled through a parking lot with the caption: “Not sure why he’s so cra-cra today but something must be brewing…”

When Brees agreed to drop his salary in 2021 from $25 million to the league minimum to help the Saints navigate their salary cap situation, it was interpreted as a sign he was going to retire. Although the video of him fiercely working out says otherwise. Brees has a deal to join NBC as an NFL analyst whenever he retires.

Wilson – an eight-time Pro Bowler who has never missed a start – currently has a no-trade clause and reportedly told Seattle he wants to play there, but if a trade were considered he’d want to go to either the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders, or Bears, per ESPN.

Speculation that Wilson was beginning to push his way out of Seattle began to mount after the Seahawks were bounced in the first round of the playoffs. There were reportedly tensions running high late in the season amid Seahawks coach Pete Carroll’s preference to run the ball while Wilson hoped to become an all-time great passer, per The Athletic. The report says 2013 Super Bowl champion “stormed out of the room” when he realized his suggestions were ignored.

Earlier this month, Wilson also complained on “The Dan Patrick Show” about the Seahawks’ inability to build an offensive line around him. The 32-year-old is signed through 2023 on a four-year extension that paid him $140 million in new money. Seattle would take a NFL-record $39 million dead-cap charge if they were to trade Wilson, which would raise the asking price.
