Giancarlo Stanton not overreacting to slow start

Observations from the Yankees’ spring training game on Wednesday.

Return of the Kraken

Gary Sanchez threw out a runner to end the top of the fifth and blasted his second homer of the spring — both off fastballs in the bottom of the inning — in a 4-1, seven-inning win over the Blue Jays. This one went to right-center. “You’ve got to be able to use the field, foul pole to foul pole, especially when you have the power he does,’’ Giancarlo Stanton said. “It’s been a great first look.”

Slow start

Stanton made his spring debut and struck out in both at-bats, but he’s not concerned. “It was good to be out there,’’ Stanton said. “The at-bats were about how I imagined for not seeing live [pitching] for about four months. It’s OK. I’ve got some time to tune up what I need to and be all right.”

Caught my eye

Aaron Judge had a rough night, getting robbed by Toronto’s Josh Palacios, who made a leaping catch at the right-field wall and then getting hit by a pitch. Acting manager Carlos Mendoza said Judge was fine after playing back-to-back days.

Thursday’s schedule

Deivi Garcia is scheduled to make his first appearance of the spring when the Yankees travel to Clearwater, Fla., to face the Phillies at 1:05 p.m.
