Nail Care Products Review – You may remember these bottles from this post here, a DIY manicure tutorial using my Poshe base and Poshe topcoat. Since these are new products, I thought I’d share a review.
Do I like it better than my Seche Vite? there are six. Seche Vite makes my hands last for days (my BIL thinks I look like a homeless person with chipped nail polish) but the thick formula can be difficult to work towards the end of the bottle. the Poshe topcoat is thinner, which makes it easier to work with, but I don’t think it lasts as long on the hands as the Seche Vite. maybe just a day less, but still a day less. (ok, enough with the minuses)

If you are looking for a base or topcoat, I would recommend these. they can be purchased at any Sally’s Beauty. (p.s. I’m also using Essie topcoat, which I don’t recommend)
L.a. Colors Calcium Strength Nail Treatment
Ever since we moved to the Rockies I’ve had major problems with splitting cuticles and fingertips. Ouch! I can usually keep it under control with Vaseline, but then I fall off the wagon and forget to use that miracle cream.
Presenting Poshe cuticle care. a lotion with AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) that exfoliates and hydrates the cuticles. why did it take us so long to figure out that cuticles need AHAs for exfoliation?! all that AHA we slapped in our faces would go a LONG way on those cuticles. exfoliation basically solves any skin care problem. it seems that our cuticles would be softer, less prone to splitting and cracking, if they were properly exfoliated. A small amount goes a long way. plus, they feel like jewels on my fingers. I think I just had a new nail design idea…gotta run. In my New Year’s blog resolutions I set out to feature more nail care products, hence today’s post. I was given the opportunity to review a few Glisten & Glow products including the acclaimed HK Girl top coat. Let’s take a look at the goodies:
Warm Apple Pie Nail and Cuticle Balm – Warm Apple has a very subtle, non-overpowering scent that I really like. The balm is really nice and smooth but is quite firm. When my hands are cold I literally can’t use it because it doesn’t melt. I’m actually putting on conditioner as I write this piece. I warmed my hands and the balm melts well. It’s pleasant but not at all greasy. It nourishes the cuticles well and I also massage it from my fingers to my knuckles. I will always prefer any product that I don’t have to stick my fingers in, but I absolutely love using this balm.
Kiss New York Professional Quick Dry Nail Polish Qp
Each can contains 0.50 ounces (about 14 grams), and there is a list of ingredients on the label in case you want to know them.
Glis-tics Cuticle Oil in White Peach Sangria – the first thing I noticed was the delicious peach scent and the ball applicator. This is the first nail oil I’ve ever owned with this type of packaging but I’ve gotten used to it. You can’t use it to moisturize cuticles after painting your nails, but otherwise it’s quick and easy to use and you won’t put on too much oil like with a pipette or brush.
Each Glis-tics cuticle oil contains 0.37 oz which I think is approx. 11ml. I would have liked to see the list of ingredients somewhere. The oil is pleasant and nourishes well and I will definitely use it.
Glisten & Glow Bamboo & Green Tea Body Lotion: The body lotion is very light and absorbs very quickly. It’s not heavy and oily, which is why I didn’t find it as nourishing as some body butters. It still seems quite hydrating though. I have to admit that I haven’t tried this in a long time because I’m not a fan of this perfume. I like green tea but I think the bamboo completely overpowers it.
On The Go” Nail Care Kit
HK Girl Top Coat – I was very curious about this product because everyone raves about it. By now, as I write this review, I’m almost done because it’s a really great top coat and I’ve used it for almost every recent manicure (they just started coming out, I’m way behind). I’ve always been excited about Seche Vite and still love it, but there are some major benefits to using HK Girl Top Coat. I haven’t had any nail polish shrinkage and it doesn’t get as thick and opaque as Seche Vite.
Stuck on Blue! Base Coat – Where to start… It has a pretty strong, weird smell that I don’t like, but if I don’t paint my nails right in front of my face like usual I can deal with it. The formula is water-based and quick-drying, which is good. On the other hand it doesn’t have the filling properties I need (I don’t polish my nails because it’s not good for them). It reminds me of the OPI Natural Nail base coat I’ve been using for years and I use it under glitter nail polish which doesn’t show the faint ridges on my nails.
The bottle doesn’t say how much product you get, but it’s about the same size as Seche Vite, which is 14 ml (0.5 fl oz).
So to sum up, I love the HK Girl topcoat and Glis-tics cuticle oil and would be happy to recommend it. The nail and cuticle balm is great when my hands are warm and I love being able to use it before taking photos without having shiny, greasy fingers. I’m not crazy about Stuck On Blu! Base Coat mainly because of the smell and because it doesn’t help cover nail ridges. Otherwise it’s a nice base coat.
